A Military/Intelligence Operational Perspective On the American Psychological Association’s Weaponization of Psychology Post-9/11
In 2015 I was asked by an eminent group of psychologists, including two former presidents of the American Psychological Association, to help them draw up new guidelines for the participation of APA members in “custodial national security interrogations.” Our recommendation was that APA members not be permitted to participate at all in such interrogations and that the APA formally condemn torture and degrading and inhumane treatment. Not only did the APA’s leadership reject our recommendations, but it sued to stop publication of our paper. After seven years of battles, the paper will finally be published in the British Journal of the History of the Human Sciences. I hope you enjoy it.
