Tucker Gouglemann
Tucker Gougelmann was a highly-decorated combat veteran of World War II. He was shot and severely wounded by a Japanese sniper in the Solomon Islands in 1943. The leg was so badly damaged that doctors insisted that it be amputated. Gougelmann refused. He kept the leg and eventually recovered, but his convalescence took two years and by the time he was healthy again, the war had ended.
