It's Crunch Time, and There's No Good News for Julian Assange
Three days of meetings between Australian Prime Minister Albanese and President Biden don't seem to have produced a breakthrough
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was in Washington last week for a state dinner, meetings with President Biden and other senior leaders, and for the red carpet treatment due one of America’s closest friends and allies. The Washington Post and other American outlets tell us that the talks focused on China, US-Australia joint defense, Ukraine, and Israel. But Australians, and the rest of us, know that the two leaders also wrestled over the status of Wikileaks cofounder Julian Assange’s impending extradition to the United States to face espionage charges and 175 years in prison. The word is that Biden did not budge.
